Requer a instalação de pacotes não confiáveis?

Tentei instalar o VLC Player ontem e recebi o Requires installation of untrusted packageserro. Procurei por horas uma solução para esse problema e finalmente recebi uma sugestão que dizia alterar servidores para baixar atualizações de. Fiz isso e me deu um erro 404 ao clicar em "Verificar" no Gerenciador de Atualizações. Tentei mudar meu servidor de volta para o servidor principal (e depois disso, vários outros), mas agora ainda estou recebendo um erro 404:

Com base nos erros que você colou na seção de comentários da minha resposta anterior, tenho outra solução possível:

sudo apt-get clean
cd /var/lib/apt
sudo mv lists lists.old
sudo mkdir -p lists/partial
sudo apt-get clean 
sudo apt-get update

Isso irá reconstruir o cache.

Basicamente, você abre um terminal e digita sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade. Isso fez por mim.

A resposta aceita não me ajudou no meu caso (Ubuntu 13.10), mas consegui solucionar o problema de atualização através da linha de comando, e não através do Atualizador de Software (no caso de alguém encontrar esse problema).

sudo aptitude upgrade

me apresentou o pacote específico que vinha de uma fonte não confiável (Gerenciador de Música do Google) e perguntou se eu queria aceitá-lo e fazer o upgrade.

Eu tive exatamente o mesmo erro ao tentar atualizar o Indicador do sistema.

No meu caso, foi por falta de chaves GPG. Há uma resposta aqui que instrui você a instalar um gerenciador de PPA e pode tentar importar todas as chaves ausentes. Fiz isso e ele não me deu nenhuma confirmação de que as chaves ausentes foram importadas, mas executei a atualização posteriormente e a instalação foi boa.

É uma mensagem de erro horrível (não útil) que devo dizer neste caso.
