Obtendo erros 404 não encontrados ao executar o `sudo apt-get update`

Estou recebendo os seguintes erros ao fazer sudo apt-get updateisso, tentei sudo apt-get dist-upgradeconforme recomendado aqui, mas nada parece corrigir o problema. Eu tenho um problema semelhante no meu PC antigo, que estou prestes a limpar / descomissionar (por isso não é urgente de corrigir ). Ainda tenho para resolver ..

Remova a linha que lê deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu main universe restricted multiverse(e a linha comentada depois disso, se desejar). Então corra sudo apt-get update. Não deve haver erros agora.

Isso resolveu o problema, você sabe o porquê? Eu não adicionei esse repositório, acho que foi adicionado quando instalei o Ubuntu inicialmente.

A sintaxe (para os repositórios padrão do Ubuntu) está incorreta. Logo após o URL, a versão da distribuição ( trusty) geralmente chega lá, seguida pelas diferentes seções do repo (uma ou mais é permitida). Veja os outros URLs para obter a sintaxe.

Primeiro, execute o sudo apt-get -y upgradeapt-get novamente.

Então você pode executar comandos como:

sudo apt-get -y update
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

sem obter o erro "404 não encontrado".

Esta foi a melhor solução para mim. As outras respostas exigiram que eu modificasse diretamente os arquivos que geralmente são mantidos automaticamente e eu não estava confortável com isso.
