O que é a atualização do arquivo apt?

Eu estava seguindo estas instruções e instalei apt-filejunto com alguns outros pacotes usando:

sudo apt-get install gnupg pbuilder ubuntu-dev-tools bzr-builddeb apt-file

E agora, toda vez que inicio meu computador, recebo este aviso:

Então eu finalmente entrei no Terminal e digitei o comando:

apt-file update

E eu recebi esta saída:

Então eu vejo que diz:

apt-file is now using the user's cache directory.

Então, o que exatamente é apt-file? E o que significa o fato de agora estar usando o diretório de cache do usuário? Isto é uma coisa boa? Qual é a diferença aqui entre o diretório de cache do usuário e o diretório de cache em todo o sistema, e qual devo usar? Isso afeta de alguma forma minhas apt-getfontes?

• apt-fileé usado para pesquisar qual pacote fornece um arquivo. Considere-a versão offline e um tanto limitada do http://packages.ubuntu.com .
