Como posso parar o gvim de travar ao abrir um arquivo?

Estou no Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 LTS e gvim(vim com interface gráfica do usuário) continua travando quando tento abrir qualquer arquivo usando a GUI / menu. No entanto, consegui abrir um arquivo do terminal, por exemplo:

user@computer:~$ vim -g ./path/to/file

As seguintes mensagens de erro são impressas no terminal se eu iniciar a gvimpartir do terminal usando vim -ge depois causar a falha ao tentar abrir um arquivo através da barra de menus / GUI:

Ubuntu 17.04

As coisas quebraram quando eu atualizei e resolvi com:

sudo apt-get remove vim-gtk3
sudo apt-get install vim-gtk

vim-gnomemencionado na resposta de Adam P diz que aponta vim-gtk3, então nada mudaria.

vim-gtk no entanto, diz que usa gtk 2 e funcionou.

Consegui parar a falha (até agora) desinstalando o vim-gtk3pacote e instalando o vim-gnomepacote.

Desinstalar vim-gtk3:

user@computer:~$ sudo apt remove vim-gtk3

A partir de 17.04, isso não funcionará mais, pois o vim-gnome agora é um pacote de transição para o vim-gtk3. Veja a resposta de Ciro Santilli para obter uma solução alternativa atualizada. Als ver bug bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vim/+bug/1650666

Também acabei de encontrar este problema no 17.04 (zesty) gvim 8.0; desinstalando o vim-gtk3 (que desinstala o vim-gnome) e instalando o vim-gtk corrigiu-o por enquanto, que encontrei neste bug bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vim/+bug/1611363

Para o meu caso, primeiro removi o gvim instalado por:

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove vim-gtk3

Então eu instalei o gvim com:

sudo apt install vim-gtk3-py2 

A propósito, estou usando o Vim8 de:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf/vim
